“Emergency 3” was one of the first really large tasks that we worked on as an outsourcing company. Our customer Promotion Software used a 2D isometric graphics for the previous parts of the series and they wanted to create the third edition of the game in a realtime 3D world with a freely rotatable camera. We were responsible for the creation of all in-game 3d models and animations that would appear in the 20 unique levels of the game. The work started in the end of 2003 and became our main project through the course of 2004.

As our customer Promotion Software decided to develop sequels for this title, we also were tasked with the creation of the in-game 3d assets for “Emergency 4” and “Emergency 4 Deluxe” (also known as “911: First Responders” in the US) in the following years 2005/2006. Altogether we created more than 1600 different 3D Models for the series.
As the game engine displayed a bird’s eye view of a rich city environment, the models had to be well optimized regarding their polygon density and texture usage. Promotion Software was using the Vision Engine from Trinigy for this game production and we were given access to the artist toolkit of the engine. This way we were able to test all our models and animations directly in the final exported format, and we delivered the assets “game ready” to our customer.
As many characters would be displayed on the screen at once, their bone skeletons and skinning had to be as optimized as possible. Still the animations had to be expressive and a bit exaggerated to be recognizable for the player from a far distance. The characters were hand-animated with their key frames set very economically, so that hardware requirements could be kept low for the target group of the game.

Reworked from the ground up, the sequel offers freely rotatable 3D graphics -- a first in the series -- as well as realistic light, shadow, and weather effects. Emergency 3: The Ultimate Fight for Life also offers day and night changes and plenty of eye-pleasing animations.
gamestats.com on Emergency 3Aside from the stuff you'd expect, the game features an enhanced physics engine supporting crashing buildings and flying debris, as well the graphics have also been vastly enhanced. The higher resolution textures and enhanced detail in the world look outstanding, as well as the improved fire and smoke effects.
